Finally arrived in Italy!
Of course us, your Cloudy and Dream, we could not resist: when we heard that the film would be presented to the International Film Festival of Rome we slings to the Auditorium buy the tickets.
But this is old news! I know you’re thinking that, but it is also important to remember this event to better understand our views.

The plot

Ron Woldrof is an electrician, it’s actually a playboy (I would have used a slightly more vulgar term) and is definitely a homophobe.
When he feels bad in the workplace, is taken to the hospital and after careful analysis, the doctors diagnosed the virus of HIV: AIDS and he still has only 30 days of life.
Premise that the story is set in the mid-80s, when information about HIV was decidedly bland, and was too often associated only with homosexual relationships.
Wooldrof is in a panic, even though he doesn’t believe to the doctors (or rather do not want to believe them), decide to go to inquire about the modes of transmission, among which there are also heterosexual intercourse, unprotected.
Ron goes on in his quest, and so turns out that as there are drugs that inhibit the virus, such as AZT that are experiencing in Dallas’ hospital that same period.
Unfortunately our main character is excluded from the trial and then he tries alternative treatments not approved by the FDA, the Food and Drug Administration.
With the help of transsexual Rayon decides to “sell” these alternative treatments in the states and help other people with AIDS who peolple that like him, would otherwise their back against the wall.
The film chronicles the battle against the pharmaceutical lobbies to approve drugs useful in patients without hope.

Everything is enriched by a phenomenal cast that really gave some great performances.

Six nominartion to the Academy Awards really deserved especially for the two main actors: Matthew McConaughey too often overlooked and considered the classic romantic comedy’s guy, and the handsome Jared Leto that, although in recent years has devoted himself to give priority to his other career (he is the lead singer and guitarist of his band) has brought to the screen a character who has entered the hearts of all of us.

Despite the original language version is superior (I think it’s really hard to dub interpretations so exciting), you should absolutely go to see this film.

Finalmente è arrivato anche in Italia!
Naturalmente noi, le vostre Cloudy and Dream, non abbiamo resistito: quando abbiamo saputo che il film sarebbe stato presentato al Festival Internazionale del Cinema di Roma ci siamo fiondate all’Auditorium per acquistare i biglietti.
Ma questa è storia vecchia! Lo so che lo state pensando, ma è importante ricordare anche questo avvenimento per comprendere al meglio le nostre opinioni.

La trama

Ron Woldrof è un elettricista, in realtà è anche un playboy (io avrei utilizzato un termine leggermente più volgare) ed è decisamente un omofobo.
Quando si sente male sul luogo di lavoro, viene portato in ospedale e dopo delle attente analisi , i medici gli diagnosticano il virus dell’ HIV: ha l’AIDS e gli restano solo 30 giorni di vita.
Premetto che la storia è ambientata a metà degli anni 80, quando l’informazione riguardo all’HIV era decisamente blanda, e veniva troppo spesso associato solo ad i rapporti omosessuali.
Wooldrof è nel panico, anche se non crede del tutto ai dottori ( o meglio non ci vuole credere), decide di andare ad informarsi sui modi di trasmissione, tra i quali ci sono anche rapporti eterosessuali, non protetti.
Ron va avanti nella sua ricerca e così scopre che nel modo esistono dei farmaci in grado di inibire il virus, come l‘AZT che stanno sperimentando nell’ospedale di Dallas in quello stesso periodo.
Purtoppo il nostro protagonista è escluso dalla sperimentazione e cerca quindi delle cure alternative, non approvate dalla FDA, l’agenzia che negli Stati Uniti si occupa di approvare farmaci e cibo.
Con l’aiuto del transessuale Rayon decide di “spacciare” queste cure alternative negli states ed aiutare altri malati di AIDS che come lui avrebbero altrimenti le spalle al muro.

Il film racconta la battaglia contro le lobby farmaceutiche per far approvare farmaci utili a malati privi di speranza.

Il tutto arricchito da un cast fenomenale che ha dato davvero delle ottime interpretazioni.
Sei nomination ai premi Oscar, davvero meritate, soprattutto per i due attori principali: Matthew McConaughey spesso troppo sottovalutato e considerato il classico belloccio da commedia romantica e Jared Leto che, nonostante negli ultimi anni non si sia dedicato alla recitazione per dare priorità alla sua altra carriera (quella del musicista) ha portato sullo schermo un personaggio che è entrato nel cuore di tutti i noi.

Nonostante la versione in lingua originale sia superiore (penso sia davvero difficile doppiare delle interpretazioni così emozionanti), vi consigliamo assolutamente di andare a vedere questo film.
