Although now known as Valentine’s Day, the feast of St. Valentine has its origins rooted in Christian history.

Sebbene oggi sia conosciuta come la festa degli innamorati, la festività di San Valentino ha delle origini molto radicate nella storia cristiana.
Come infatti il nostro amato Sheldon Cooper, cinico per eccellenza ci ricorda, San Valentino fu un Vescovo romano decapitato sulla Via Flaminia (una delle consolari di Roma). La festività religiosa legata a questo giorno fu istituita da Papa Gelasio I el 496 d. c.
Tale festività è strettamente legata al Santo che le dona il nome, infatti questo prende il titolo di “Patrono degli innamorati” (oltre che degli epilettici) proprio a causa di alcuni episodi della vita del Santo.

Questa è solo una delle storie che aleggiano attorno alla vita di questo Santo.
Abbiamo detto quindi che il suo culto risale al V secolo, mentre l’usanza di scambiarsi o spedirsi dei bigliettini detti anche Valentine fra innamorati risale all’alto Medio Evo.
La diffusione della festa si deve invece ad i monaci Benedettini.
Al giorno d’oggi invece questa festa è caratterizzata dallo scambio di fiori e cioccolato e spesso è considerata solamente una strumentalizzazione dell’industria dolciaria e fioraia.
In tutto ciò c’è da dire che questa non è la nostra festa preferita, ma abbiamo trovato il nostro modo di festeggiarla, un modo un po’ artistico se vogliamo.
Dopo tutto è la festa degli innamorati, no? Quindi noi abbiamo deciso di occupare questa settimana, parlando appunto delle coppie celebri, dei grandi amori e degli amori all’apparenza più silenziosi, ma che sono proprio i più grandi.
