Well, then let’s start!
The one of Carnival is a tradition usually celebrated in the countries of the Catholic religion, as also the Latin origin of the word “carnem levare” brings us right to the festivities preceding the beginning of Lent, a period renowned for composure, fasting and renunciation.
As we said this festival, anticipates Lent, Carnival ends in fact, depends on the traditions, between Thursday and Fat Tuesday (the day after Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday, is considered the first day of Lent). In celebration of this, it is essential masquerade.
Despite this, however, we can say that this festival has much more ancient origins, as it is a descendant of the Greek Dionysia and the Roman Saturnalia, during which a temporary dissolution was achieved by social obligations and hierarchies to make way for the overthrow of the order, the joke and even to debauchery.
Analyzing the history, then we can say that Carnival has always been considered a period of play, celebration and renewal during which the chaos replaces the established order, but once out of the festive period resurfaces renewed until the beginning of next carnival .
As for his celebration after the greek-roman period in the fifteenth and sixteenth century in Florence, the family of the great Masquerade Mefici organized on
wagons called “triumphs” accompanied by singing and dancing.
In the Rome of the papacy took place in the race instead of barbers, and the “Race of Moucouleti” small lit candles that competitors were trying to spegnarsi each other.
In some cities, it is observed the Ambrosian rite, which states that the Carnival ends with the first domentica of Lent, thus making the first Saturday of Lent on the day culmination of the festivities.

Carevale, carnevale, carnevale…
