Once again, the chemistry with his reactions, makes us dream.

How?

With the fireworks!

The show that we all see from below, it is actually just the result of the reactions of explosion of certain chemicals.

Normally the launch in the sky of a fireworks display, involves four simple fact:

• Light
• Noise
• Smoke
• And some solid material that falls in a fire.

These spectacular fireworks, although nowadays are used to entertain people at parties and shows, have origins anything but entertainment: in fact in the eighth century in China were mostly used for war purposes.

The science that deals with the study of art and fireworks, is the Pyrotechnics!

The various colors of the fireworks, is given by some oxidants, which added to the original mixture, sublimate coloring the flame of the fire.

To make the red, you normally add Strontium, Barium for the green or the Copper, and Copper Chloride for the Blue.

The fireworks change name depending on the place where they are used: there are those from the ground, those planes or those of water.

Ancora una volta, la chimica con le sue reazioni, fa sognare grandi e piccini.

Come?

Con i fuochi d’artificio!

Lo spettacolo che noi tutti vediamo dal basso, in realtà è solo il frutto delle reazioni di esplosione di alcune sostanze chimiche.

Normalmente il lancio nella volta celeste, di un fuoco d’artificio, comporta quattro semplici effetti:

• Luce
• Rumore
• Fumo
• E del materiale solido che cade in combustione.

Questi fuochi spettacolari, anche se oggi giorno vengono utilizzati per intrattenere la gente durante le feste e gli spettacoli, hanno origini tutt’altro che d’intrattenimento: infatti nella Cina del VIII secolo erano usati per lo più per scopi bellici.

La scienza che si occupa dell’arte e dello studio dei fuochi d’artificio, è la Pirotecnica!

Le varie colorazioni dei fuochi d’artificio, è data da alcune sostanze ossidanti, che aggiunte alla miscela originale, sublimano colorando la fiamma del fuoco.

Per fare il rosso, in genere si aggiunge dello Stronzio, per il verde il Bario o il Rame e per il blu del Cloruro di Rame.

I fuochi artificiali cambiano denominazione a seconda del luogo nel quale vengono utilizzati: ci sono quelli da terra, quelli aerei o quelli d’acqua.

Fireworks!!!!

Hello to all!
From today and for the next few days I decided to tell you about another “event” that takes place in the sky and the colors of many shades.
I’m talking about fireworks!
The idea came to me after reading a wonderful book by Jeffrey Stepakoff, entitled “Fireworks over Toccoa”
Book that I recommend to everyone, because it is a reading light and not too challenging, but at the same time very exciting and cinematic.
Reading this book, and specifically the parts where the protagonist speaks passionately of the fireworks, I have come back to mind the many evenings I spent with the face upwards while waiting for the “barrels” began.
Even as a child I was always fascinated by fireworks, and unlike the other children, who were crying scared of the Pops, I watched the sky fill with color and light with surprised expression on his face.
Will that already as a child I was a dreamer, with a vivid imagination by all accounts, though everything about the sky and the stars has always intrigued me a lot.
So I thought I’d read about it, to find out more about this fantastic show on artificial!

Da oggi e per i prossimi giorni ho deciso di parlarvi di un’altro “evento” che avviene nel cielo e lo colora di molteplici sfumature.
Sto parlando dei fuochi d’artificio!
L’idea mi è venuta dopo aver letto un bellissimo libro di Jeffrey Stepakoff, intitolato “Regalami una stella”.
Libro che consiglio a tutti, anche perché è una lettura leggera e non troppo impegnativa, ma al tempo stesso molto appassionante e cinematografica.
Leggendo questo libro, e nello specifico le parti in cui il protagonista parla appassionatamente dei fuochi d’artificio, mi sono tornate alla mente le innumerevoli serate che ho passato con il volto verso l’alto in attesa che i “botti” iniziassero.
Fin da piccola sono sempre stata affascinata dagli spettacoli pirotecnici; e a differenza degli altri bambini, che piangevano spaventati dai botti, io osservavo il cielo riempirsi di luci e colori con espressione meravigliata dipinta sul volto.
Sarà che già da piccola ero un sognatrice, dotata di fervida fantasia a detta di tutti, comunque tutto quello che riguardava il cielo e le stelle mi ha sempre incuriosito molto.
Quindi ho pensato di approfondire l’argomento, per scoprire qualcosa su più su questo fantastico spettacolo artificiale!

The Rainbow

We are all used to, after a heavy rain or sometimes while it’s raining, to see a rainbow.
But why do we see it? What is,in fact, a rainbow?
The rainbow is an optical phenomenon caused by sun’s rays using the drops of water (whether rain, or a fountain or a waterfall) as a little prism to disperse sunlight into the seven colors of the rainbow.

This phenomenon is called dispersion, it is the product of the phenomena of reflection and refraction of light.

Although the colored beam generated by the above effect, varies from one color to another gradually, generally is indicated by seven bands of color: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet.
There are also some lunar rainbows, or night rainbows, can be spotted in the nights when there is an intense moonlight, unfortunately due to the human perception of colors in low light occasions, are perceived as white.

In contrast to how it was believed over the years, the rainbow is not a physical object placed in a certain position in the sky, but it is just an optical phenomenon, whose location depends only on the position of the observer and that of the sun .
If we see a rainbow in the sky, we see it as opposed to the sun, and we can see that the inside is always brighter than the external one.

Generically we define rainbow, each optical phenomenon which involves the dispersion of light, such as a beam of white light through a glass plate and is divided into the colors of the iris, but definitions are incorrect.
Photographing a full rainbow is really difficult, because you need a visual angle of 84 °, to overcome this problem you can take advantage of various online programs that allow you to combine several pictures to form such a picture “overview”.
Again because of the reflection phenomenon, sometimes happen to see rainbows double or triple in the case of a secondary rainbow, compared to the first colors are reversed.

Historically, already the greek philosopher Alexander of Aphrodisias (in the second or third century BC) describes this fascinating phenomenon.

Then there are many philosophers and physicists who will discuss his training, the most famous is, impossible not to mention it,  Descartes speaker of the laws of refraction, and Isaac Newton.

Siamo tutti abituati, dopo una forte pioggia o talvolta durante, a vedere un arcobaleno.

Ma perchè lo vediamo? Cos’è di fatto un arcobaleno?

L’arcobaleno è un fenomeno ottico, causato dai raggi solari che utilizzano le gocce d’acqua (che siano di pioggia, o di una fontana o di una cascata) come piccoli prismi per disperdere i raggi solari nei sette colori dell’iride. Questo fenomeno chiamato dispersione è il prodotto dei fenomeni della riflessione e della rifrazione della luce.

Sebbene il fascio colorato generato dal suddetto fenomeno, vari da un colore all’altro gradualmente, genericamente è indicato da sette bande di colore, ovvero: Rosso, Arancione, Giallo, Verde, Blu, Indaco e Violetto.

Esistono anche degli arcobaleni lunari, o notturni, possono essere avvistati nelle notti in cui c’è un’intensa luce lunare; a causa della percezione umana dei colori nelle occasioni di scarsa luminosità, sono percepiti come bianchi.

Al contrario da come si è creduto negli anni, l’arcobaleno non è un oggetto fisico posto in una data posizione nel cielo, ma si tratta solo di un fenomeno ottico, la cui ubicazione dipende solo dalla posizione dell’osservatore e da quella del sole.

Se vediamo un arcobaleno in cielo, lo vediamo sempre contrapposto al sole (dalla parte opposta rispetto al sole), e possiamo notare che la parte interna risulta sempre più luminosa di quella esterna.

Genericamente noi definiamo arcobaleno, ogni fenomeno ottico che implica la dispersione della luce, come ad esempio un raggio di luce bianca che attraversa una lastra di vetro e si divide nei colori dell’iride, ma sono definizioni errate.

Fotografare un arcobaleno completo è davvero difficile, poiché si ha bisogno di un angolo visivo di 84°, per ovviare a questo problema si può usufruire di vari programmi online che permettono di unire diverse foto per formare così una foto”panoramica”.

Sempre a causa del fenomeno della riflessione, a volte capita di vedere degli arcobaleni doppi o tripli; nel caso di un arcobaleno secondario, rispetto al primo i colori sono invertiti.

Storicamente, già il filosofo greco Alessandro di Afrodisia (nel II-III secolo a.c) descrive questo affascinante fenomeno.

Successivamente sono in molti i filosofi ed i fisici che discuteranno sulla sua formazione, tra i più famosi è impossibile non citare Cartesio, relatore delle leggi di rifrazione, e Isaac Newton.
